Premonitions – Primordial Instinct [EP]

premonitions – primordial instinct [ep]

Info

A new Black Metal venture from Wrocław in the Lower Silesia region of Poland; Premonitions are a five piece who are fronted by Vephar vocalist Amira Gaafar, a band whose reviews you can also read on this site. A self-release digital only offering, the bands debut EP ‘Primordial Instinct’ features four brand new tracks as well as bleak, monotoned cover art.

Opening track ‘Under the Silver Moon’ is a flowing, cohesive sounding song; a fine mixture of a powerful and confident drumming style that focuses on bombastic rhythm, a guttural and aggressive vocal approach that oozes passion and malicious intent, as well as steady guitar leads laced with frost bitten melody.

These qualities surge through the entire EP and the whole thing seems to fly by in a haze of gloom and aggression. As harsh as the vocal tones are though, this EP is very much slanted towards the melodic aspects of Black Metal. In truth this is a highly promising debut EP; fast paced, well performed and so groove drenched you find yourself nodding along even after its finished.

A new EP is being worked on currently by the band, due for release within the next few months. I hope that premonitions include some tracks of a slower tempo, I’d be interested to hear how the band sound if they took things to a slower, darker place. In the meantime, ‘Primordial Instinct’ should be required listening for you all.
