A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Finnish Black Metal band Shadow’s Mortuary deliver their third full-length album with ‘Kuoleman portit’. This “Unohdettu maa” presents the pretty usual Finnish mix of raw, coarse vocals, razor-sharp cold guitars and pounding drums between mid-tempo and high velocity. The fast and aggressive sections are mixed with parts.

Think: Horna, Azaghal and Satanic Warmaster. To be honest: I do not see Shadow’s Mortuary winning any awards for innovation and originality. From a country that has given us so many stalwart bands, the music on ‘Unohdettu maa’ is too run-of-the-mill.  This doesn’t mean it’s mediocre, boring or uninteresting. No – Shadow’s Mortuary show some real craftsmanship on their third opus. With unruly vocals in Finnish and all the ingredients for a slab of satanic Black Metal the album is worthwhile listening to.

What you get is good Finnish Black MetaL I can understand why Purity Through Fire signed the band in 2018 and released/promoted their talents. Maybe their next album will be a true blaster.

I you liked their two previous album or you’re in vehement Finnish Black Metal of good quality – help yourself to some Shadow’s Mortuary.
