A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

UK Black/Death Metal band Vandr are know for their lyrical concepts revolving around both Norse and Green mythology. However, for their brand new single, ‘Farmaðr – Wanderer Ov Bitter Earth and Broken Stones’, which is to be on a brand new album due out towards the end of the year, Vandr have objected for subject matter a little closer to home. The impressive artwork is an artists interpretation of a ridged mountain called the Dragons Back in the Peak District in Derbyshire, and the song itself speaks of ancient gods and spirits wreaking vengeance on humanity because of our decadence and disrespect to the earth.

It’s a fitting start, a peal of thunder, the wind bellowing and the rain pouring, followed by the sound of a horn and then straight into intoxicating guitar leads, intense and endearing, as well as demonic growls and secondary deathlier growling vocals further in. Wonderful atmospheric synth melodies, clean monastic chanted vocals and an ever present sturdy backline of punishing drums and rumbling bass make up the rest, but it’s the haunting harmonies, subtle softer interludes and mesmeric rhythms that have me truly excited for the new Vandr album.
