Lysergic – Dimethyltryptikon

lysergic – dimethyltryptikon

Info

After and EP and a split EP, both released digitally, this Canadian noise-mongers felt ready for a full-length album. Yet, they never asked us, innocent bystanders, if we were ready for anything like this, a sonic equivalent of a bludgeoning skull crusher. Lysergic offers a lethal blend of Black Metal, Death Metal, Grindcore and just plain straight-out Noise.

The power of Lysergic lies not only within the tipping point of these musical genres, but even more so in the way they bring it. It never really gets bogged down into a brainless blur, the band keeps on churning riffs and knows that slowing down every now and then only adds to the violent nature of the music. In the slower parts the real menacing beauty of this album shines, but… never for long. Before you know it the band grabs you by the throat and drags you back into their whirlwind of blind aggression and pure, blood soaked savagery. The crazy whammy-leads, pummelling drums and outrageously nasty vocals, they all add to the impending sound of ‘Dimethyltryptikon’.

Yet, that is really not all. The three-eyed demonic mushroomgoat (?) that is depicted on the somewhat uncommon artwork seeps through the full 30 minutes of the album. A slightly hallucinatory, kaleidoscopic sort of psychedelic atmosphere makes the album definitely one of a kind. Lysergic is everything but a Black/Death-the-Canadian-way by numbers. For sure, you will hear a lot of familiar elements, but if you dare to push the play button, you are definitely in for a treat!

Not surprising that Crucial Blast and Ixiol signed up for the release on respectively on CD and vinyl, both format should be released somewhere later this year. This certainly is stuff for the true connoisseur of the weird-but-nefarious.
