A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

One of the beauties of the times we’re living in is the fact that we are able to discover newer acts from far away lands with relative ease.

Imaginar Poetic hails from Indonesia and offers some interesting Symphonic Black Metal that might appeal to fans of bands like early Arcturus or even Limbonic Art, however there are some details here and there that we should address.

Firstly, let’s talk about the production, which to my ears sounds good. It’s raw and muddy, but doesn’t detract too much, everything is audible and there’s some nice synergy among all the instruments too, but the keyboards are definitely the center piece here. Carrying the main melodies and offering a contrast between the suffocating “coarseness” of Black Metal and the harmony that the synths provide.

That being said, the album clocks in a little over 50 minutes. Bear in mind that’s over 50 minutes of very similar songs, all fast and moody and quite repetitive in their structures. The lack of vocals also is a detractor here, since the synths can only do so much to keep one’s attention.

I’d say that this album would work much better as a shorter EP. Because as majestic as it is, it failed to keep me focused throughout the whole thing.
