A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Demo number four from his Swedish band. I can say I’m very very curious about the previous three now! Since 2003 Oppression have released a demo every year with three or four new songs. Is this a band that will eventually get a record deal? I surely hope so, cause they harbour quality. Oppression does not sound Swedish at all. Evil Dead, Acid Reign, Heathen, Metallica, Defiance, Testament. Should I could go on? Thrash metal it is then.

Everything makes sence on this demo. The production, the raw but melodic and very old fashioned eighties vocals, thrashing riffs and most noticable great bassplaying by Fredrik Petersson including the sharp Greg Christian / D.D. Verni sound. So, what can Oppression improve to ensure a place in history and a record deal? Writing catchier songs for starters.
Because that is what made the classic thrash bands from the eighties legendary. Songs that people can recognise and remember. Beside that, Oppression certainly understands all the tricks and details to make energetic powerful thrash metal. Plenty of room for improvement but great already.
