Ziegenhorn – Goat Demo(n) [Demo]

ziegenhorn – goat demo(n) [demo]

Info

In all of my years listening to Black Metal, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a demo whose opening track is made up predominantly of goat bleating. But that is the way for Estonian trio Puritanical Goatblasting Tyrantichrist Bearing Judgement ov Hellfyre, (Drums) Kruxificator of Extragoatial Might, (Guitars/Vocals) and Demonic Slaytan of Anti-Blasphemous Goaturality, (Bass/Vocals) or as they are collectively known, Ziegenhorn. ‘Goat Demo(n)’ is the bands debut offering; four tracks of raw Black/Death Metal that the band self-released on both CD and cassette back in 2019.

As previously mentioned, opening track ‘Intro (Bleating For The Devil)’ is mainly just that, bleating. First song proper ‘A Chant for Utopia’ gets the demo off and running with a combination of belligerent and abrasive drumming, intensive and harsh riffs and raw, aggressive growled vocals. Whilst never wavering in their ferocious, dark sound, there is still a lot of rhythm and groove worked into the fabric of this track. If anything, ‘Black Tongue Eucharist’ only increases the maniacal sounds created by Ziegenhorn; though the old school Death Metal element is far more pronounced here, especially within the drumming style and the deep, bass groove. Not only that, but the vocals take on an even more ferocious aspect when twinned with brief spells of slower, more sinister sounding intensive melody. The demo closes with ‘Goatblood Ritual’, a more calculating, brooding track with ice laden guitar leads and non-nonsense riffs, that quickly make way for a battering ram style to see things out.

An unpolished and distinctly murky debut demo from Ziegenhorn. they have since unleashed upon the world a debut full length album entitled ‘Blut&Kaos’ so I might have to go and check that out too!
