Bloodsoaked Visions – Humid Effigies In Stagnant Water [Demo]

bloodsoaked visions – humid effigies in stagnant water [demo]

Info

Earlier this year the one-man act Bloodsoaked Visions, part of the English Black Swarm circle (together with acts such as Blót and Snares Of Impurity), released a digital and fully instrumental demo. That one is now followed up with another digital and again/still fully instrumental demo. While instrumental (Black) Metal is usually not really working too well, ‘By Order Of The Black Temple’ had some memorable moments and the lack of vocals did allow the listener to focus more on the music.

However, with ‘Humid Effigies In Stagnant Water’ I am starting to miss the dynamics that vocals usually bring to the music. The first demo amassed around 9 minutes of music, which apparently was enough to keep the listener’s attention to the music. ‘Humid Effigies In Stagnant Water’ doubles that playing time and also brings a bit of a slower and overall doomier sort of Black Metal, which subsequently is a bit more of a challenge to the listener. Overall there are still numerous of solid ideas and musical peaks, but it is clear that these compositions yearn to be embellished with some appropriate vocals.

In my review of ‘By Order Of The Black Temple’, I wrote that I wasn’t exactly sure if the instrumental concept was a keeper or if those demo recordings should also be considered really as “demo recordings”. When this new digital release came out and having heard it a few times, I feared that Bloodsoaked Visions would continue to pursue an instrumental formula, however, the recently released split with Romanian Strigoic Curse features actual vocals. So, the bottom line, then, is that Vithnagh, the man behind Bloodsoaked Visions, really used the concept of “demo” as such, and that can only be appreciated.
