A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Released in just 15 copies and only distributed to people within the close circles around the band… You can definitely say that this self-titled debut demo of Evil Deceiver is quite obscure. Not only does this add a bit to the mystique of the band and the demo itself, it can also peak the curiosity of the crowd. I guess the tactics of the band combines both, but even without it Evil Deceiver is an interesting new Black/Death Metal outfit.

The demo’s cover and musical ethics would make you brace for some savage and brazen Black/Death Metal, but in fact, the music is remarkably well-crafted and sounds even more than decent. The foundation of the band seems to be built on evil American Death Metal of the likes of early Imprecation, Morbosidad and Sadistic Intent. Where Imprecation and Morbosidad already wear a thick Black Metal jacket, Evil Deceiver adds to it with a more than obvious nod to Demoncy. This does complete Evil Deceiver’s American sound, however, nowhere does it get as messy or chaotic as many of their genre peers. This does add to the listenability, and what you could possibly be lacking due to the absence of that charmingly rickety musicianship is more than made up for by the excessively heavy yet raw production.

Although the demo tape was released in just 15 copies, it seems the Belgian Zombi Danz Records is in the picture for future collaboration with the band. Whether that is for a wider release of this demo tape or something completely different is yet unclear, but either way, we should be on the lookout for news on Evil Deceiver.
