With ‘Demo ‘23’ the four-piece Death Metal band from the Finnish capitol of Helsinki brings forth their first recording. The six tracks clock in at a total playing time of just under 12 minutes, making it a very short but treacherously lethal first offering.

The Finnish Death Metal scene is usually typified by the Old School Death Metal legends such as Demigod, Funebre, Purtenance and Convulse, but these four anonymous musicians are approaching their Death Metal from quite a different angle. In fact, it is an almost Ross Bay Cult kind of take on Death Metal, incorporating obvious elements from both Grindcore and Black Metal and even adding some wild whammy solos and pitch shifted vocals. This all results in a fairly chaotic and obviously primitive sort of Death Metal that will definitely appeal to those who enjoy their extreme metal without too many frills or sophisticated finetuning. The Grindcore-tinged guitar sound combine great with the choppy riffs as well as the chaotic drumming so it does come close to those genre legends such as Proclamation and Teitanblood.

If you have had enough of the kind of downtrodden cavernous sort of Death Metal bands that are all so desperately mimicking a blubbery wall-of-sound approach: try this for a change. This sort of Death Metal is the real deal, no hipster bullshit, just plain of Old School violence in audial form.
