A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Disguised Malignance is a relatively new band from Helsinki, Finland. Some of the young band members have already been featured on our pages with a review for a demo of their other band Azatoth. Though Disguised Malignance is also a Death Metal band drawing influences from the earliest bands in the genre, it sounds distinctly different.

After a short intro, the band offers two new songs and a Morbid Angel cover (‘Maze Of Torment’). The addition of the Morbid Angel song is telling for what to expect from these young guys: rather intelligent and well-written Death Metal with loads of twists in riffs and leads. Its quite muffled sound and snappy snare drum makes the music sound even more authentic and, compared to their earlier demo, from 2021, these new songs are a tremendous step up in terms of quality. Not only the song writing in itself or their individual musicianship but also their sense for atmosphere as greatly been developed over the course of those two years.

To top things off nicely, the Lovecraftian cover is what you can consider the icing on proverbial Death Metal cake. Any straight-faced Death Metal fan with a penchant for well-played and likeable Death Metal in the vein of Morbid Angel should definitely turn to these young Finns.
