A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Featuring two tracks, the longer of which is instrumental, the ‘Rite of Initiating Blessing Part I’ EP is the sophomoric release from Croatian Black Metal one man project Ninhursag. Opening track ‘Rivers of Creation’ has an initial sound that roars outwards like it was the explosion of all creation. Featuring harsh intensive guitar leads, trigger happy drum tones interspersed with blast-beats, and vitriolic and powerfully growled vocals, Ninhursag unleashes an unstoppable tirade of noise and spite despite the lyrical concept behind the song seeming to celebrate the creative forces of the river and the life, death and carnage perpetuated on or around it’s muddy banks. Instrumental track ‘Invocation of Soul Memory’ has a far darker, fearsome and brooding atmosphere. However, the riff-age/drumming savagery is carried over and even intensifies during this relentless beast of a track. Similar in style to some early work by Bolzer, especially in the undercurrents of the songs melodies where it sounds like the guitar leads are trying to drill a hole into your brain. I rather like this EP, it has an intense ferocity that simply doesn’t let up until the very end! (Luke Hayhurst)
