A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

In a male-dominated world it is always great to encounter an all-female metal band, especially when they sound as crude and savage as Merciless Savagery – a very apt name as far as I’m concerned. This is not quite Burning Witches, so to speak…

These two ladies do play a very raw and ugly form of metal that has ingredients from all things extreme. My guess is that their favourite bands include Venom, Bathory, Blasphemy, Imprecation, Morbosidad and old Sodom. It all blends together in an 80’s feast of raging Blackened Speed Metal of Death. Not original at all, but who gives a flying F? The spontaneity and the passion makes up for the lack of anything else. The fact that it this is only played by two individuals gives ‘Demo 2020’ that ‘live’-atmosphere that makes the sound even more authentic. The short songs (almost all under the 3-minute limit) give the spontaneity extra power, in less than 20 minutes 8 songs rage by in which the ladies definitely convince me of their honest sounding 80’s uppercut.

This is just right up my personal alley and I am sure this will be enjoyed by anyone who has this weak spot for mid- to late 80’s Blackened Thrash sound. It is of no surprise that Nuclear War Now! Productions picked this demo up for a reissue. Keep an eye on Merciless Savagery, I would say.
