A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

SenfGas is a oneman operation hailing from Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, led by its sole creator, Henker. Active since 2024, the project has already reached its third demo—delivered entirely under an independent banner. We get 10 tracks.

The name, taken from the German word for mustard gas, is no casual choice. It embodies the brutality of chemical warfare and sets the tone for everything within. Here, it’s less a gimmick than a symbol: a metaphor for suffocating, corrosive destruction. Song titles, the oppressive atmosphere, and the project’s identity all point to the horrors and inhumanity of conflict. Lyrically and conceptually, SenfGas operates in the trenches between war, oppression, destruction, philosophy, and religion—interwoven to portray humanity at its most nihilistic. The throughline is clear: weaponizing sound itself as a form of psychological warfare. This is not political rhetoric but an artistic stance, using martial and historical imagery not to glorify, but to amplify the extremity of the music’s emotional payload.

Musically, SenfGas fuses the relentless speed and tremolopicked violence of Black Metal with the sheer weight and blunt force of Death Metal riffing. Noise elements weave through the chaos, adding layers of abrasion. The result is a dense, almost suffocating wall of sound—mirroring the toxic, claustrophobic imagery implied by the project’s name.

Still, the execution isn’t flawless. A noticeably thin bass robs the music of some impact, and the muffled vocals often vanish beneath the incessant buzz of guitars. The production, while intentionally harsh, is uneven, leaving room for serious improvement. At its core, SenfGas is pure blasphemic Black Metal—raw, unbalanced, and overflowing with sonic violence. It thrives in chaos, even if this chaos still needs refining. If the sound sharpens in the future, the project’s corrosive potential could be devastating.
