Wulvyr – Moon.Malice.Heresy

Info

Personally I love it when a band name, the title or artwork of an album clearly gives away what you are in for. Such is the case with Wulvyr’s debut album ‘Moon.Malice.Heresy’. Although the name in itself might not really be a spoiler, the artwork and especially the album title is. You got it right, you will hear some Black/Death Metal in the chaotic and barbaric way. But, still, the interested listener will be in for a bit of a surprise…

Although the album’s artwork and title might refer more than a little to Revenge and Conqueror, Wulvyr is way more diverse in sound. Wulvyr also builds on the bludgeoning violence of the bands in this particular genre, but it offers more dynamics when it comes to tempo. Apart from the fierce and blistering speed, the music slows down often enough to give the album a thorough ominous feel. Add to that the slightly industrial sound and the shrill and ear-piercing guitar tone and the apocalyptic picture is complete.

Although a total contempt of human life and a penchant for everything violent and destructive is not quite new to this niche genre within the Black/Death Metal scene, Wulvyr brings everything to new heights. It sounds almost like a madhouse jam session between Revenge, Beherit and Pig Destroyer. So, if you are into a raw offering of everything noisy, Wulvyr might be your game. For vinyl fans, there is still a bit of a wait. Goatowarex will release it on wax later this year, so still plenty of time to save up for the label’s usually quite pricey records.
