Befamal – The Christ Exile [Demo]

befamal – the christ exile [demo]

Info

Brazilian Thrash/Death styled assassin metal band, Befamal, split-up after releasing only one demo entitled ‘The Christ Exile.’ Forming in 1998, the one merit discography regrettably left them hidden under the piles of other Death Metal bands coming onto the scene and ones already on the scene, putting out more material.

‘The Christ Exile’ is amazing nevertheless and each track begins with a Thrash metal riff with Morbid Angel strongly heard in the guitars. Take title track ‘The Christ Exile’ for example and the boiling, slightly fuzzed sound of them. ‘Contemplating the Possession’ is utterly vicious and just like something out of the early 90’s; short, groovy and brutal. The vocals are consistently deep, guttural growls mixed with screams, the obvious exception being the Tom Araya styled yell on ‘Invitation to Deceivers.’ ‘Demystifying the Future’ is a six and a half minute track, that actually starts our pretty slow, unlike the rest of the album and you can year the screams over the growls much more. The minute of basically dead air was a bit off-putting, but the extremely high energy finish makes up for it.

‘The Christ Exile’ is Befamal’s sixteen minutes of fame and this raw, bludgeoning band deserves much more exposure. Despite their many influences, Befamal remain unique. With undeniable bone-munching, skull crumbling aggression and catchiness, Befamal is a great thrashed Death Metal band and will hopefully make another appearance or two on the scene.
