Cultellus – The Dark Could be Forever [EP]

cultellus – the dark could be forever [ep]

Info

First off, the lad from Cultellus is the same lad in Hermodr (and a bunch more), which might give you an idea; next I saw the photo he has on Metal-archives, and immediately assumed I was in for some Bestial War Black Metal thing, but wrong I was.

This is the project’s 3rd offering since 2022’s ‘The Old Way’ LP. ‘Destroy to Rebuild’ (LP) was released earlier this year. This EP is an interesting one. Not a work of art, nor a majestic example of Black Metal, but the atmosphere and some melodies are quite nice. It gives out an almost claustrophobic sensation at times.

The guitar melodies are very soothing, very calming, but the vocals sound tortured and filled with despair. Would not call it DSBM, nevertheless there is certain degree of a depressive state throughout the EP.

‘A Medieval Dream’ kicks off with a very medieval-like guitar riff, very old-sounding, mid-paced, truly interesting. The vocals are, as during the remaining of the EP, tortured and mid-buried beneath the instrumental structure of the song. ‘When the Battle is Won’ has this peculiar, yet good, riff that breaks the flow of the song, giving it a very nice punch.

Overall, it is a nice set of songs with a general melancholic atmosphere and melodic riffing. Interesting one.
