A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

From Louisville, Kentucky in the US comes a one man project by the name of Christlier who last year self-released a debut full length album on CD by the name of ‘Sumerian Rites’. The premise behind this album is an intriguing one; the ancient Annunaki, a powerful and obscure alien race from Sumerian folklore. Reading through the lyrics that Reidal Roncourt P has written for this opus, its clear that he carries within him a flair for storytelling, and his words are concise and compelling journey that is then matched by the deeply melodic and bleak Death Metal that he creates. There is also an underlaying sensation of deep seated horror that permeates the whole of ‘Sumerian Rites’, and this is exacerbated by the frequent bouts of rumbling bass play, and rolling chugging riffs, as well as a highly technical style of guitar melodies that weave their way throughout the whole release. Whilst I found the drums to be a little orthodox, the emphasis on the guitar work more than makes up for that, and the all encompassing sense of dread, and the engaging lyrics make ‘Sumerian Rites’ an album that is worthy of all of your attention.
