I recently encountered a statement suggesting that Metal enthusiasts, fans, supporters and so on, ought not to dwell on the past, but rather embrace and appreciate all novel influences, emerging genres, and the like. Evidently, this particular memo failed to reach Cult of the Night, purveyors of ’80s Black/Speed Metal! And justifiably so, as ’80s Black/Speed Metal is a fine genre still.
The influences of Venom, Slayer, and Celtic Frost are unmistakably heard, transporting one back to 1984. While it may not represent a musical achievement of the highest order and is unlikely to be hailed as a seminal modern-day release within the Black/Speed Metal scene, it is undoubtedly an EP well-suited for a gathering with friends beside a campfire, starting a conversation with “Remember when we…”.
