A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Following on from my review of ‘Consecration of the Spiritüs Flesh’, it is now time to move on to ‘Luadimmerantia’, the EP release that came a few months later from French one-man Black Metal project Esoctrilihum. I said that the album was nihilistic and brutal, and the EP sets out where the album left off, with savage riffs spurred on by unrelenting blast beats and noxious vocal work, with just a hint of soaring melodic harmonies rearing up in the background. Rather than temper the unquenchable ferocity of the Esoctrilihum sound, these melodic flourishes serve only to exacerbate the unsettling and often deranged tone of the EP. Indeed, as maniacal as the rhythms are during this EP, it is great to see a progression in terms of songcraft and musicianship when compared to the last album, which if you have not read my review, was an all-out juggernaut of heathen fury and twisted, abrasive barbarity. For the ‘Luadimmerantia’ EP there has been way more emphasis put into off-kilter melodies and harrowing tones, both from the use of well-placed synth work, and from the guitar leads. I am especially keen on the glacial hostility that simply seethes from the guitars! A really impressive EP to follow up the album, one that is far more varied but also a lot more oppressive!
