Fertilizer – The World Continues To Turn [Demo]

fertilizer – the world continues to turn [demo]

Info

Last year around the same time I reviewed the first demo, simply called ‘Demo’, of Canadian one-man act Fertilizer and was quite enamored by the mix of styles that this five-tracker was presenting. Sticking to the formula, Fertilizer again serves us a with a good portion of Noise and Punk infused Black Metal, or Black Metal infused Noisepunk, whatever you prefer to call it.

In yet another just-under-15-minutes demo this act pummels through a harsh set of something that is rather hard to pinpoint. Still, the Fertilizer sound can best be described as the harshness of bands like Ildjarn, Bone Awl and Akitsa mixed up with the naked scraping sound of Unsane and early Helmet. It all comes wrapped in a, dare I say it, charming garage sort of sound that makes the overall feeling tilt a little more to the Noisepunk side of things, but fans of the grittiest and rawest Punk-driven Black Metal will definitely find enough to sink their teeth into.

Although categorizing can be a comfortable tool for us to see what we are dealing with, there will always be entities that refuse to think in the same way. Fertilizer obviously is such an example, it rejects and denies all clinical logic and let the music do the talking. In this very case it is quite simple: you either love it, or you don’t. And in the right Punk fashion, I don’t think the musician behind this act wouldn’t give a flying fuck: his world will continue to turn.
