A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Little information about Dutch Black Metal project Lijkschouwer appears to be available, so I’ll crack straight on with my review of their 2022 release ‘Lamentations of Cosmic Absurdity’. My first impressions of this offering are that of Black Metal fused with the lingering bleakness of drone! It has a cold and bitter unearthly quality to it, exacerbated by the anguished yet guttural vocal work and the slow, brooding tremolo picking that frequents the release. A collision of anger and hatred fuelled energy, and melodic fervour leading to an overbearing atmosphere of gloom and despair; a mood that is then enhanced by vicious bouts of blast beating frenzy and monstrous unrelenting riffs. I feel there are definite Doom like tendencies hidden away within the depths of this release, from the highly groove drenched bass offerings to the overwhelming aura of oppressive gloom that cloaks the album. I love the guitar work on offer, from bleak wandering guitar leads to chunky, darkness soaked riffs. In the background the clamour from behind the kit compliments the guitars superbly, whilst all the while the vocals flick between despair and vitriol! Little information I can glean about this band, but I know what I like and this sits rather well with me.
