A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Despite the fact that the Chris Moyen-like black/red-with-goat cover might make you expect a serving of Ross Bay Cult Bestial Black/Death Metal, the music of this American duo is more in line with the band name. Alcoholic Black/Speed/Thrash Metal with an infectious Punky slant that is thankfully averse to trends and neatly follows all genre aesthetics. Or, much more simply, as they put it themselves, their music is “eternally dedicated to all heavy metal drunks, boozebags, speed freaks, and fuck ups”.

In exactly 19 minutes, these two gentlemen regale you with a well-executed but rather low-key mix between the aforementioned styles. Of course the usual bands are honoured, Motörhead, Venom, Bulldozer, Gehennah, Toxic Holocaust, Midnight and Abigail are never far away. But in all fairness, Shithammered, unlike their name suggests, do come from better homes musically than the average band in this genre. In the third track of this digital EP, ‘Alcoholic Triumphator’, for instance, the guitar in particular is quite well-muscled and we are presented with good melodies and leads. The EP then appropriately closes with a cover of Bulldozer’s ‘Whiskey Time’. It should come as no surprise, this is highly recommended for those who prefer their metal old-fashioned, regressive and Rock-‘n’-Roll fuelled.
