A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

The Bandcamp-page of this one-man act says that it is from the UK, something I do not dispute, but judging from the Dutch band name it is a bit surprising. Klaaromtesterven is Dutch for ‘Readytodie’. Anyway, the origin of this Black Metal project is of course less important than its musical content.

Klaaromtesterven presents four short songs, of which the longest one is just over three minutes and all tracks together clocks in just under ten minutes. The music sounds rather mechanical, mainly because of the programmed drums, but that only bothers during the first few seconds of the first song, after that it seems to blend in better. The gritty sounding guitars are clearly digitally recorded and gives that mechanical edge as well as the evenly distorted vocals. The strange ambient-like last track with pinging piano gives it a nice ending. A good example of home crafted bedroom Black Metal, which in my book is not a disqualification at all – just try counting the amount of bands that started out this same way. This demo is from a few years ago, so I am wondering whether Klaaromtesterven has recorded anything else or plan to continue this project. I just hope he didn’t take the band name too serious…
