A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

The Australian duo of Mitch Coon (Guitar/Vocals) and Alex Waldmeyer (Drums) have formed a filthy little down tuned Death Metal project going by the name Miserable Creature. This is their self titled debut demo release and it truly is a grim affair, featuring venomously growled vocals, fuzz laden guitar leads and savage drumming, all deliberately produced at a slightly lo-fi tone for added grisliness. Usually on these under-produced kind of demos I find the musicianship to be somewhat simplistic, however Miserable Creature have created some very intense melodies through grinding guitar leads and the drumming style, savage when needed but often just bolstering the guitar sounds. the demo’s finale track ‘Wishful Death (By Proxy)’ even features a short 80’s horror synth intro before delving into another bout of slower paced, groove drenched riffage and symbol heavy drumming. A surprisingly good opening salvo from Miserable Creature, old school in the extreme and jam packed with rhythm. (Luke Hayhurst)
