With two tracks spanning a total of 8 minutes, Finland’s Unohdus’ arrival on the Black Metal scene is short but sweet. The atmospheric Black Metal in these two songs shows the one-man band from a diverse side, with the second track ‘Pohjatuuli’ emphasizing a more uptempo and melodic approach to the genre. However, the song somewhat pales in comparison to the stunning opener ‘Niin turhaan tähdet valaisivat meitä’. In particular the beautifully interwoven violins, arranged and performed by Matthew Dakoutros, stand out as a melancholic highlight in the mid-paced dreamy atmospheric Black Metal with harsh vocals that at times leans on Post Black Metal territories. Clearly, a promising release making Unohdus a band to keep an eye on for the future!
