A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

This Old School tinged Death Metal band, Melting Eyes, comes to us by way of The Hague, South Holland in the Netherlands. Melting Eyes got together officially as a band in the year 2017 yet they have only released this one EP, ‘My Final Resting Place’ here, back in 2021, and that’s it for six years Now, in 2023, they have taken part in a compilation so there is signs of more coming but let us rewind and find out what this EP may have to hide.

‘My Final Resting Place’ is an amalgamated musical love letter to Death Metal, Old School Death Metal to be specific. I would happen to compare Melting Eyes approach in these four songs on this EP to that of the mighty Bloodbath. Where the base is decidedly European in origin and feel but no region or early era of Death Metal is truly left out. So while still being Old School in approach and feel it honestly sounds fresh and new while being comforting and familiar.

Overall when it comes to this sect of the subgenre, Old School that is, it never really is about the newness or originally of it all. It is all really about being able to write a good, sold, memorable song while having the ability and musicianship to pull it off. Thankfully, on ‘My Final Resting Place’ Melting Eyes have done just that. They have written some damn good songs while having the chops to pull it all off. Sure, it’s nothing amazing but it’s still pretty damn good and that’s good enough for me.
