A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Second demo for this one-man Death Metal act that has little to do with sophisticated soundscapes or technical wizardry. Instead, Phlegmesis goes deep into the most rancid sewers of the Death Metal genre.

Though I have read some comments on the production, I can’t really see why. ‘Filthspeak’ sounds raw and dirty, but what else would you expect? This short demo, just clocking over 7 minutes in total (with quite a lengthy outro included) delivers you a brutal but predominantly slow, chugging Death Metal with a pretty digital production, not too far removed from what Mortician had during their heydays. Bowel movingly heavy riffs and vocals on some (well-programmed) drums and ditto (movie) samples. It certainly is not something that we haven’t heard before, in fact, Phlegmesis follows a downtrodden path. Yet Joey Cinz, the sole member of the band, executes it really well, offering a short but good quality demo. If I am well informed, there should be cassette tapes of this demo available shortly. Interested parties should keep an eye on Phlegmesis’ Bandcamp page.
