Finsternis – Finsternis Über Alles [EP]

finsternis – finsternis Über alles [ep]

Info

Some Deep South extremity in the form of Mobile, Alabama based Melodic Black/Death Metal quintet Finsternis, whose new EP entitled ‘Finsternis Über Alles’ came out in early 2022 as a self-released digital offering. the EP comes on the back of a handful of Ep and single releases that the band have put out in a prolific couple of years.

‘Finsternis Über Alles’ indeed… I adore this EP. Its combination of intensely groove drenched guitar melodies, hammering drum tones, ravenous vocals and oh so satisfying bass tones sit just right with me. Opening song ‘An Unspeakable Darkness’ has literally everything you could possibly want, from domineering relentless brutality, to punishing bass leads, catchy guitar rhythms and unspeakably bleak melodies. ‘Lampri Tragodia’ not only continues this savage goodness, it increases it. the guitar leads are maniacal, the vocal ferocity unrelenting, and the drumming sturdy.

If I had to pick one quality that stood out on this EP above all others, a quality that makes me want to experience this EP again and again, I would have to say its the powerful urgency that I feel running throughout the six tracks on offer. Its primal, an unwavering determination that is felt with every note, every chord. It manifests itself through deeply satisfying riffs, through intense vocal work and through a barrage of colossal drum tones. Furthermore, this EP has been put together in such a way that it ensnares and engrosses from the first moments until the last.

I’d very much like a full length release from these lads, but for mow I’ll make do with this ravenous juggernaut of a release.
