A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

‘Transcendental Eclipse Of Inner Darkness’ is the debut demo tape of Haavrun, a new Bulgarian Raw Black Metal combo that sprung out of the minds of vocalist Lycanthropus and instrumentalist Todorac (mostly known for his solo-projects Smyrtonos and Opiumortem). And, just like basically everything Todorac has produced so far, Haavrun can be filed under Raw and almost Lo-Fi Black Metal. Fodder for the depraved and outcasts.

In well under 15 minutes Haavrun serves us with five tracks some rather classic Raw Black Metal that often reminds of the heydays of Les Légions Noires and, to some extent, even on some of the current day Portuguese bands. Harsh and icy cold riffs and utterly demented vocals vie for which is the most morbid ingredient in these bizarre compositions. But fact is, they are not inferior to each other, but reinforce each other’s strengths so that ‘Transcendental Eclipse Of Inner Darkness’ comes across as a nasty hallucinatory dream. Obviously, this first feat is not for the fine-minded among us, but should you consider yourself a seasoned lover of the genre, then it is highly recommended to give this demo a few listens. If you dig deeper into the music, you will find some eerie melodies in the gritty riffs that almost verge on the harmonious. This again demonstrates the talent of Todorac, who has shown, especially with Smyrtonos and the now defunct Opiumortem, that when the stars are aligned favorably he is capable of a more than decent game of Black Metal.
