Esoctrilihum – Consecration of the Spiritüs Flesh

esoctrilihum – consecration of the spiritüs flesh

Info

For those of you who remember the UK comedy sketch show, The Fast Show; this week, I shall be mostly reviewing – Esoctrilihum! I am in fact reviewing this French solo Black Metal projects latest four releases starting with this, the projects seventh full length opus since its inception back in 2017. Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Asthâghul has certainly been a busy boy, and in 2022 alone he unleashed four bouts of some of the most nihilistic and violent Black Metal to ever leave the shores of the Gallic nation. this particular album was put out on CD by I, Voidhanger Records.

Opening track ‘Spiritüs Flesh’ quickly lets the tone for the whole album with a devastatingly savage onslaught of horrifying riffs which mesh with a cacophony of drumming fury and intensity that most bands will never be able to match. There is nothing subtle nor cautious about this style; it is pure barbarism from the very first note! As if in competition with his own musical prowess, the vocal work from Asthâghul is truly deranged; a ravenous outpouring of hatred and bile delivered at rapid speed and with an abrasive quality that matches his musical stylings well. In places though the vocals increase in intensity to such a level that it sounds like a flock of demons has been unleashed; so visceral and malicious is the sound created, a sound that is matched by a furious whirling maelstrom of raging drum tones and cataclysmic guitar leads. There are moments of variation in this style, such as the bombastic tones that close out ‘Thertrh’. Yet those moments are rare, and the sanity crumbling onslaught of Esoctrilihum is as unrelenting as it is torturous!
