Nexul – Scythed Wings of Poisonous Decay [EP]

nexul – scythed wings of poisonous decay [ep]

With its two members coming from the notorious Nyogthaeblisz and Hellvetron, Nexul is a Black/Death metal quintet hailing from Texas. Their upcoming and third opus “Scythed Wings of Poisonous Decay” is a nine track EP that will be unleashed via Iron Bonehead Productions.

Characteristically speaking, this EP sheds a clump of frenzied guitarworks throughout its entirety. The atmosphere you will be experiencing herein is maniacally evil; and amidst all the “evilness” it delivers, it contains a fair share of Death Metal oriented riffs which is the propelling element of this album. Yet this Death Metal vibe might seem OTT from some aspects, it definitely does not mitigate the “darkness” that a record like this should offer but rather strongly compliments the style.

The guitarists have done a marvelous job by putting enough variations to their composition, for which the songs sound neither bland nor monotonous for a bit. Besides these charnel guitar writings, if there’s a thing that drives the songs to exceed its evilness, it’s the vocal approach. And these vocals were paired with reverberation on purpose to make it sound more diabolic, as if they woefully echo from the deepest pit of hell. The tone of snare which the drummer has chosen for his drumming in the first four tracks, goes exceptionally well with the battering blastbeats. It would had been great if the rest of the tracks had the same snare resonance.

As the music is formidable in nature and wicked in quality, the album emits wickedness and magnificence in parallel degree. Throughout your journey to this record, you will notice musical similarities of Vasaeleth, Pseudogod, Hellfire Deathcult and bands alike. Within its musicianship, Nexul have demonstrated a good combination of ghastly, ominous and malicious musical notes that come off of an unholy place of sheer depravity and hellishness. The moment you press play on this one, you will be lost in utter chaos and unnerving sorcery.

All in all, “Scythed Wings of Poisonous Decay” is the kind of release that shall mark its name in the AOTY list of any underground maniac who is into Black/Death Metal. If you fall under that category, you shall keep an eye out for this. (Osmani)
