Multi-instrumentalist Brennen Westermeyer has returned once again with his prolific, going it solo, Death/Doom Metal project Thorn and their outstanding, brand new full-length album ‘Evergloom’. We here at VM-Underground love us some of the sweet prick of Thorn music, just check out some of the previous reviews. But first, let us at least finish this one.
Now, at times, with previous releases everything was good, if not great in it’s own right but the transitions and juxtaposition of parts could seem off putting and slightly clumsy at times. Yet, with ‘Evergloom’ all has finally come perfectly together. The progression into more than a mere meat and potatoes Death/Doom Metal band has been completed, the quest is done, and the outcome is downright phenomenal. Post-Metal, Grind and a slew of other genre references are sprinkled throughout the whole proceedings. Creating one of the most interesting, flowing, majestic, beautiful and crushing Death/Doom albums to ever grace the wretched planet.
