Someone at VM-Underground thought it was a good idea to give me this album in order to unwind a bit.
Apparently, this band was initially a side-project meant to play real dirty and sleazy Black Metal/Black ‘n’ Roll. The name, Chotzä, means to “puke” in the local dialect where they come form, namely Bern in Switzerland. With such fine credentials, you simply know you’re in for a treat.
The album itself is a re-recording of their 2014 debut. Folter Records also provided promotional pictures of the members. Let’s say – I hope I never bump into those anti-social pigs at a stag party.
Musically, it’s mainly old school 1980-ies Black Metal, those Black ‘n’ Roll influences make up but a small part of their music. It’s pretty straight forward, with a state-of-the art high cholesterol production and deep disgusting alcohol infected vocals. The songs themselves are of high quality, perfectly composed and if it wasn’t for the lyrics, it would be another old school Black Metal album.
It’s party down for Chotzä, with lots of alcohol, bad women and even more bad behavior. Nine tracks of filthy Black Metal give you the feeling to tear up the place, vomit next to the toilet which ran out of paper again and to piss freely in lady’s purses. Never mind the coming hangover, we’re all going to die someday, might as well go out with a bang.
In short : HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for people who crave the likes of Cranium, Vondur, Whiskey Funeral, Carpathian Forest and the Swedish headbangers Gehennah, to name but something. Every music collection should have a couple of those, in my opinion. Let your hair down and release the Beast.
