Cryptworm – Oozing Radioactive Vomition

cryptworm – oozing radioactive vomition

Info

Even if you have not picked up any of Cryptworm’s previous releases, when a trio of labels like Extremely Rotten Productions, Me Saco Un Ojo Records and Pulverised Records team up for a collective release, then you know you for a while will be chewing on something good. Together the labels present you the second full-length of one of best Death Metal bands out of the UK, not because they are taking their take of Death Metal into flamboyant or original territories, in fact, the very contrary is the case. The thoroughly authentic sound that harkens back to many recognizable forces is what makes Cryptworm to be so profoundly enjoyable.

You will not find anything that you have not heard (many) times before on ‘Oozing Radioactive Vomition’. Although there are clearly traces of bands like Autopsy, Demigod and Incantation, Cryptworm simply sounds like a truly heartfelt homage to Demilich. Most striking is Timor Hanyi vocal delivery that feels extremely close to Demilich’s Antti Boman gurgling vocal antics, but the resemblances certainly do not end there. The way of composing unorthodox riffs and rhythmic shenanigans are very reminiscent to those of the Finnish giants of extraordinary Death Metal.

Of course, this close comparison did not start with ‘Oozing Radioactive Vomition’, it has been evident throughout their entire back catalogue, stretching all the way back to their inception in 2014. Yet, it feels like everything falls in place perfectly for the first time on this sophomore album, not only the vocals and the music, but most notably also the production. It is the overall sound that would almost make you think you were listening to that much longed for (but never appeared) second Demilich album.

With a perfect playing time of 35 minutes this album gives you just enough hooks and kicks to feel completely satisfied. You’ve had enough weird and marvellous, yet uncommon riffs and a good dose of dysrhythmic freakery to not be all too overwhelmed. Cryptworm have really developed themselves into a true chef de cuisine, balancing their recipe for maximum result.
