Insomnium – Winter`s Gate

Melodic death metal wasn`t that present on my map the last months, so I was curious to see If Insomnium could change that with their new album „Winter`s Gate“, a 40 minutes song in the vein of Edge of Sanity`s „Crimson“, or at least inspired by it. And yes they did, for most of the length. Landscapes of ice and seas, mountains(of might), and hordes of Vikings, all these things come to mind while listening to this effort. Different emotions, feelings throughout the album, thanks to great musicianship and songwriting. In the middle of the album it gets a bit lost just zo turn back stronger towards the end. A very ambitious album every fan of melodic death metal should check out If you aren`t afraid of lengthy songs. (DPF)
