Sometimes when I am having a hard time coming up with what to write for a review I start with an outline that covers most bio info. Like where a band is from, it’s the Philippines this time. When they started, 2019. Also maybe what subgenre of Metal do they play, here we got some more Old School Death Metal. And also where they are along the line in their discography, with Formless Oedon it happens to be their debut full length.
Next I like to touch on what the band sounds like and possible comparisons, so again, Old School Death Metal here with a mix of international inspirations. Such as Demigod, Rippikoulu, Father Befouled and Incantation. I also like to sometimes add in what subject matter they cover in their lyrics. And I like to do that either in this section or other times I like to have it in the into or other times I mix hints in throughout. This time it’s the tried and true mix of Lovecraftian cosmic horror and the video game Bloodborne.
Sometimes here I like to touch one production and overall atmosphere of a album. ‘Streams Of Rot’ here sounds fabulous, it’s the perfect mix of that gritty, thick atmosphere combined with a sound the allows for every aspect of sound to be heard. Gorgeous.
Finally I like to wrap things up with an option or just some parting words. This one’s pretty easy, not a lot of words needed. Formless Oedon’s ‘Streams Of Rot’ is fucking (sentence enhancer) fantastic. Period.
