The new Just Before Dawn…but this time with some old habits.
On ‘A War too Far’ you will hear multiple vocalists again. Besides David Kreft who was the vocalist on the ‘In the Realm of Ash and Sorrow’ and ‘Battle-Sight Zeroing’ EPs, Damien Terry of Envig and Matias Nastolin of Decaying, among others, stepped into the studio to record some vocals. But the most noticeable one is the participation of legend guitarist James Murphy to lay down a lead on the title track.
But besides the personnel, you would like to know how ‘A War Too Far’ sounds like, right?
Once again the lyrical theme is the Vietnam war, but there the ’old habits’ stop, as there is more melody on this album. No, it is not that Biazzi and his troop went all nowadays Amon Amarth or something like that, but there is a slight melodic addition in the riffs, besides the common Bolt Thrower / Hail of Bullets-link. Just Before Dawn’s ‘IVth Crusade’ sort of speak. Conclusion; caterpillar tracks rollin’ drums and riffs, proper vocals and more than decent album altogether.
One of the famous pro-war phrases of the Vietnam war was “No glory like old glory”…No Death Metal like Old School Death Metal.
