A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Back in the year of 2020 the Black Metal band Balmog here released their third EP and sixteenth release over all with ‘Pillars Of  Salt’ which we are discussing here. ‘Pillars Of Salt’ is a single track EP that clocks in at a staggering eighteen minutes and twenty-three seconds. So by no means the longest single track release but still a rather formidable length for any casual fans of Black Metal.

What we find within ‘Pillars Of Salt’ is some rather modern sounding Black Metal. Chaotic energy intermingles with Melodic tendencies and Atmospheric rides, making for one track that hits on as many points within the Black Metal spectrum that it can, seemlessly and beautifully. But if I had to break it down to what mix of bands this EP sounds like; I would have to say it is rather like newer Behemoth, Watain and Mayhem mixed with some touches of Drudkh. So really good.

So, yeah, ‘Pillars Of Salt’ may be only a one track EP but it is one fantastic journey through all the peaks and valleys that you can encounter within the modern Black Metal scene. It quenches my thirst and simultaneously leaves me thirsty for more.
