Seattle based Death Metal band Cystic, who have putting out a couple of demo’s and EP’s since their inception in 2018, release through the Mexican stalwart Chaos Records their first full length.
Judging by the intel provided, the band has maintained a fairly low underground profile. Chaos Records apparently deemed their music good enough to sign the trio. And the connoisseurs from Tabasco are renowned for their high end material.
What Cynic display on their debut is a hateful spawn of twisted rotten Death Metal, contaminated with Grindcore and doomish parts. The vocals from Tannar Moore are vile, coarse and full of hatred. Musically – ‘Palace of Shadows’ sounds rather technical yet quite menacing. Walls of towering feedback guitars dominate the sound, backed by superb octopus like drums ( whose style reminds of Doom monsters Winter ). I can’t but conjure up the diabolical influence of a Carcass, Viogression, sludge legends Grief and Repulsion – all brilliantly mixed together with some personal ideas. The music is colossal, very bleak in nature. It’s a behemoth of darkness, hopelessness, bile and despair.
Personally I have always adored this filthy sound and Cystic manage with their brilliant ideas to create an impressive debut.
