A cracking horror sample to kick off your Death Metal album… early 90s, is that you?
Summoning Death are no strangers to these pages with their Swedish-rooted Old School Death Metal, and once again, they’ve managed to put together an album that the average Death Metal enthusiast will listen to from start to finish.
As with their previous records, the foundation is Swedish, but where last time I caught a whiff of the old Finnish scene, now the more grooving English scene comes to the fore. The variation of grooving mid-tempo and up-tempo sections, sometimes verging on grinding, combined with occasional (melodic) leads, will charm many.
For me personally, the previous EP grabbed me more after a few listens than this third full-length, but that shouldn’t detract from the pleasure, because it remains a solid album, and if the combination of Just Before Dawn, Paganizer, and Entrails suits your taste, then ‘Tombs of the Blind Dead’ will undoubtedly win you over too.
