Mask Of Satan – Underneath The Mire

mask of satan – underneath the mire

Info

Finnish Death Metal band Mask Of Satan have returned with their sophomore try at a full-length album. Well, I guess I would have to say returned as in having released ‘Underneath The Mire’ in 2021 but back is back so let’s just get on with this review. Shall we?

Mask Of Satan here are a four piece Death Metal band from Tampere, Pirkanmaa, Finland. Where in 2015 they got together in this band because of a genuine love of Old School Death Metal and the multifaceted Horror genre in general. Hell, they even took their moniker from a classic, and for a long time controversial, 1960’s Italian horror film of same name.

Now, to be honest with you all, I am not familiar in any way with Mask Of Satan before hearing ‘Underneath The Mire’. But the first thing I noticed is that these guys sound like a seasoned, veteran act, who have their shit dailed in and a sound all their own. And the sound found in this album is almost like what I would call the Six Feet Under for Bloodbath.

Whereas I mean like how Six Feet Under is like the more, simplistic but no less lethal brother to Cannibal Corpse. Mask Of Satan is like that to Bloodbath, a more simplistic, beat down vicious version that is no less catchy or good.

So, yeah, in the end, if you are someone who is into a band that basically sounds like a really good mix of Bloodbath and Cannibal Corpse but more refined down to the most catchy and most lethal moments. Then you will absolutely love Mask Of Satan’s ‘Underneath The Mire’. For real.
