Let me start by making it clear that this album, ‘Das Flammenmeer’ by the German band Valosta Varjoon, is exactly what I’m looking for; it moves me and stirs my dark soul.
Released in 2021 via the excellent label Purity Through Fire, a imprint that constantly churns out gems, this is nearly an hour of authentic Black Metal spread across seven tracks. It is melodic and fast-paced without ever becoming tiring, featuring striking atmospheric elements and just the right amount of aggression!
Musically, they bring to mind the performance style of Tottenwache and perhaps the exquisite Mavorim. ‘Das Flammenmeer’ is a stellar example of Black Metal played exactly as it should be! The cover art is beautifully dark, featuring those beloved flames burning just as intended… Support Valosta Varjoon: they truly deserve it!
