With the debut ‘…and Whispering Trees’, the beginning of this new collaboration between Throne, vocals, known from Hor and as live guitarist for Sad, and Ungod, from Sad, Slaughtered Priest, Necrohell, and Cadaver Coils, is officially sealed. A collaboration with the main goal to venture into the direction of Bergrizen and Aaskereia.
In regards to Aaskereia, I would say it is mostly the vocals heard on their album ‘Mit Raben und Wölfen’, that you can compare the Black Metal of From Distant Hills with. And when looking at Bergrizen, the melody lines feel more folkloric in comparison to the album ‘Der Unsterbliche Geist’.
Yet, it is easy to hear why Throne and Ungod named these two bands specifically. If you add the spirit of Burzum to the mix, you get a Black Metal album featuring a tortured scream that manages to sound melodic, occasionally Finnish, and deeply melancholic.
All in all, a solid debut.
