‘Senectus Viae’ is the second full-length album by the Chilean Black Metal project Ad Finem Omnia. According to the album description, ‘Senectus Viae’ explores themes of decay, endurance, mortality, solitude, and personal transformation, presenting a more focused and disciplined sound than the band’s earlier work.

With ‘Senectus Viae’, Chilean Black Metal project Ad Finem Omnia delivers a work that is less concerned with aggression than with existential confrontation. Rather than pursuing sheer violence or atmospheric escapism, the album explores mortality, solitude, and self-determination through a focused blend of melodic and raw Black Metal.

The Long Road to the Abyss… In a Black Metal landscape increasingly crowded with nostalgia acts and aesthetic revivals, Ad Finem Omnia returns with a record, This album was composed and performed primarily by Pablo Vera, with mixing and mastering by Ricardo Araya, that feels genuinely lived rather than merely performed. ‘Senectus Viae’ is a meditation on mortality, isolation, and endurance, shaped into eight chapters of melodic yet raw Black Metal that value introspection over spectacle.

From the opening moments, the Chilean project establishes its intentions. This is not an album concerned with triumph or transcendence. Instead, it traces a slow descent through existential anxiety toward a form of hard-earned clarity. The journey begins with solitude, progresses through decay and disillusionment, and ultimately arrives at acceptance.

Musically, the band refines the formula introduced on the previous release. Melodic guitar lines cut through the darkness with a mournful elegance, while the raw edge of the production preserves the emotional distance that Black Metal requires. Rather than overwhelming the listener with constant intensity, the songs breathe, allowing themes and atmosphere to unfold naturally.

The album’s centerpiece is undoubtedly ‘Anguish and Revelation’. Through its confrontation with death as life’s only certainty, the track encapsulates the philosophy that drives the entire record. Mortality is not portrayed as an ending to be feared but as the force that strips away illusion and reveals what truly matters.

Elsewhere, ‘The Hermit and the Wind’ and ‘Inner Decay’ explore the loneliness of self-discovery, while ‘The Leaf That Refused the Light’ stands as a powerful statement of individualism. The album refuses easy comfort at every turn, questioning authority, convention, and inherited beliefs. That challenge reaches its most direct form in ‘Abolish God’, a track that rejects external salvation in favor of personal responsibility.

The closing title track, ‘Senectus Viae’, ties the entire narrative together. The Latin phrase, roughly translated as ‘the old age of the path,’ serves as a fitting metaphor for the album itself. What emerges is not enlightenment in the traditional sense, but wisdom forged through struggle, loss, and perseverance.

What makes ‘Senectus Viae’ remarkable is its restraint. In an era where many bands seek greater speed, greater extremity, or greater theatricality, Ad Finem Omnia chooses focus. Every riff, every melody, and every lyrical theme serves a singular purpose: exploring what remains when all illusions have been burned away.

A mature and thoughtful work of mature Black Metal that transforms existential despair into artistic strength. ‘Senectus Viae’ is not an album of escapism. It is an album of confrontation, meaningful lyrics and it is all the more powerful for it.
