Saram – …Lima Hell! [Compilation / Re-Release]

saram – …lima hell! [compilation / re-release]

Info

Despite being officially formed in 1998 in Lima, Peru, Saram’s history goes back many more years. In 1991, the band Neuroparalya was formed which eventually turned into Saram Scivit in 1993 but not all too long after, the band was carried to its grave with only a local and modest cult status as its legacy. However, the band got revived in 1998 but they shortened the band name to Saram. No more than a few demos and an 7” EP were recorded before they threw in the towel again in 2007.

In 2012, the compilation CD ‘…Lima Hell!” was released posthumously by Austral Holocaust Records, featuring the ‘Metal Mayhem Genocide’ demo tape from 2004 and the ‘Embrujo’ 7″ EP from the following year. And as is not unusual with compilation albums of this kind, two more unreleased songs are dug up and added to the whole. At the end of January 2023 Finland’s best merchants of Black Metal finally gave this compilation its well-deserved vinyl treatment.

The Peruvian extreme metal scene may not be all that big, but it is fanatical and the line-up of almost every band reads like a who-is-who of that ever-intriguing Peruvian scene. Saram is no exception in this, in its ranks we find musicians who are (or were) active in acts like Black Angel, Goat Semen, Violentor and Anal Vomit. In fact, Saram also actually sounds like a big hotchpotch of all those bands together: a good serving of Black/Thrash Metal that has nothing on trends or otherwise modernities. Song titles like ‘Hate Lust And Death’ and ‘Extreme Holocaust’ also speak volumes in this, it fits right into the alley of Sarcófago, Mutilator and (very) old Sepultura. Primitive riffs, barking vocals and an ultimate raw atmosphere and energy that take you straight back in time. Saram and ‘…Lima Hell!” bring exactly that: a metal time machine that treats with unadulterated authenticity.
