‘Plainfield Cemetery’ is the name of the new Deranged, a release I personally was looking out to for quite a while, since their entire discography consists of nothing but killer releases in the extreme Death Metal genre.
When I read in the biography that this release would be “vaguely more melodic, but at times only”, I grinned from ear to ear. ‘Cause the word melodic is kinda relative when talking about Deranged. But, I must admit, they were right. At times only.
As the first tunes had the same effect as an average earthquake, I knew I didn’t had to expect many surprises. Their hyperkinetic, neurotic sound stayed very recognisable. The only 2 differences with previous releases is that those were even a little more inaccessible, although ‘Plainfield cemetery’ also needs to be played more than once, before you fully appreciate it. The other, bigger change is new vocalist Calle Fäldt, who uses an occasional scream, and whose throat is a little less deep than before.
Besides the liner note about the melody was there another thing that created a greasy smile on my face; the song titles. ‘Roadside rendez-vous’, ‘Mutilate and dump you’ and ‘Beaten, raped and fuckin’ left to die’ are the correct song titles for this musical mass murder.
‘Plainfield Cemetery’ is a big (!) recommendation to all who liked earlier Deranged-stuff, and for the rest out there that like it raw, meaty & brutal: OH YEAH! Get this stuff!
