Incantation – Decimate Christendom

incantation – decimate christendom

Info

Incantation is well-known for their own special brand of Death Metal. One of their specific trademarks is the combination of faster parts and very heavy guitar riffs with a doom metal touch to it. Their latest offering is called “Decimate Christendom” and it features guitarist/mastermind John McEntee on vocals for the first time.

This is the only major difference compared to their previous releases. Musical wise it is vintage Incantation, which means that the contrast between fast and very slow parts, the sinister harmonies and thundering drums are still present. John McEntee does a convincing job in the growling department. The strongpoint of this album lays in the well- balanced combination of faster songs like “Decimate Christendom” and “Dying Divinity” and slower songs like “Horns of Eradication” and “Eternal Darkness Under Conquered Skies”. After several years without any significant musical changes, the band has become a little predictable. Incantation does, however, have its own unique style, which is a welcome relief among all those Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse clones which are populating the scene nowadays. The production sounds rather raw, though clear, so you can hear each individual instrument in the mix. Last but not least I would like to mention the extraordinary artwork.

Decimate Christendom is a strong, yet musically predictable release. The hardcore Incantation fans, however, would probably not expect anything else, so why change a winning formula?
