Limbonic Art – The Ultimate Death Worship

limbonic art – the ultimate death worship

Info

The new Limbonic Art; at last! Especially since the passing away of (the) Emperor and a period of almost three years (with side projects like Zyklon) I have been looking forward anxiously to this release and, as it shows, that long wait has not been for nothing!

During that long period no drastic changes have occurred; today, the band still exists of infamous duo Daemon & Morfeus, and no drummer in the flesh (read: they still use the drum computer!). And with a title like ‘The Ultimate Death Worship’ I don’t believe that we have to fear a drastically change of concept and music either…

Eight tracks and almost 52 minutes of music? Well, If you know that two tracks are only (useless in my humble opinion) intros the score comes down to 6 tracks and 46 minutes of real music (including small intros); it doesn’t take an Einstein to calculate that the average length of the songs is between 7 and 8 minutes.

Long songs that do not bore me a moment, by means of changing the tempo, the use of killer riffs (take for instance the opening title track and ‘Towards The Oblivion of Dreams’), which are occasionally thrashy, and the excellent sound! Only sporadically the keyboards are used in a role that draws the attention, like the “Dr. Who-like” arrangements in the title track, yet mostly it is the wall of guitars, with the screams of Daemon and the rolling bass drums that dominate this great album!

I just can’t figure out why people keep on calling this Symphonic Black Metal; I would much more prefer the term Technical Black Metal. The black throne that has been available since the passing away of (the) Emperor is still free, and the malevolent head of Limbonic Art could very well be the new place for that throne. Could be, as there are still some minor steps to be taken (the so called details)… Well, maybe on the next album, just as long we don’t have to wait that long again!

Oh yeah; for the vinyl freaks: the vinyl copy also contains one track extra: ‘Voyage of the Damned’…
