Incantation – Blasphemy

incantation – blasphemy

Info

Several good albums appear every year, but when Incantation releases a new album, it’s always something special for me. This is a band that never disappointed me. And I can reassure you: “Blasphemy” is once again an absolute killer. John McEntee, the main man behind Incantation has once again given me an album I will cherish.

First of all, where most Death Metal bands can only maintain the attention for half an hour, Incantation boasts a full 73 minutes and 57 seconds! Unfortunately this is not all Death Metal, since track 12 is 23 minutes of distant rumbling, and track 13 is almost the same, but now with some tolling bells and low voices. This is the only blemish on the album, but what to complain about if we still have almost 50 minutes of Death Metal left! I’ve always thought of Incantation as a very original Death Metal band, but on this album they explore every single corner of the genre. As always Incantation like to seek the contrast between the exxxtremes (Wim Baelus rules) of speed, playing both fast and utterly slow.

All the elements of Incantation are present, the rolling bassdrums, the full guitar chords and thundering riffs, along with the low grunts, almost Sabbath-like doomparts and the unbelievable amount of artificial harmonies. But Incantation goes further than ever and leaves me baffled, wondering if this is still human. Tracks like “Blasphemy, “The sacrilegious apocalypse of righteousness and agonizing dementia (the final defilement of your lord)” and “Uprising heresy” are some of the best they have ever done.

When the album was over, I woke up from my trance and realized that I am nothing but an earthly mortal, left in a void of utter silence.
